Nyborg Castle

Sinatur hotel Storebælt is not far from Nyborg Castle, and we warmly recommend our guests a visit to the castle.

The significance of Nyborg Slot in Denmark’s history is not to be missed and today you can walk around the Danehof Hall, the historical space where the king actually met with his parliament in the Middle Ages, and where Denmark’s first constitution was signed.

Nyborg Castle was founded approx. 1170. It´s not known for sure what the oldest Nyborg looked like, but the core of the preserved palace building dates back to the mid-1200s, and before that there was a large ring wall around Slotsholmen.

Nyborg was convenient, in the middle of the country and by the water, so King Erik Klipping used the castle as a venue for the so-called Danehoffer.
